Birthdays

Hello, friends!

It's been a little while so I thought I'd say hi.

As mentioned in the previous blog, last week was Krista's birthday, and I got to attend briefly via skype. I really like this picture that Caroline took at the party so I thought I'd share it :)

It was 6 o'clock in the morning here.

One of the girls from our group, Jami, turned 21 on Tuesday this week, so we decided to take her our to dinner at a nice Chinese restaurant. (I know, I know, Chinese food in Tanzania? It was good! You may as well ask yourself which is closer to China, Tanzania or the States, before you make any judgments about the quality of the food.) Since the drinking age is 18 and not 21 in Tanzania, we all got to participate in the (very well mannered) festivities and tried Kahlua and ice cream for dessert.

(Rachel, Jami, I- let's practice good grammar, and Jenny)

Otherwise this week has been reasonably uneventful. Libby, my roommate, and I have watched a lot of Harry Potter and soccer and I've been reading quite a bit. Over the past two days I've developed a little cold, so I'm thinking I'll lie low this weekend and work on my research paper for class.

There are a couple of us that are planning on going to church on Sunday. I hear it's quite the experience and hours longer than I'm used to-- I'll be sure to keep you posted. Afterward, we're allgoing out for burgers to celebrate the 4th of July with a little taste of home. I'm feeling a little homesick thinking about not being there while everyone is engaging in the festivities. Besides Easter, 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays. I just love hanging out with everyone and I REALLY love fireworks. As Tanzania appears much more flammable than most neighborhoods in the States, I doubt they'll let us light any here...

Usiku Mwema, rafiki. Lala salama.
